BHP, Caterpillar, & Finning Collaborated to replace the Fleet of Haul Trucks

An agreement to replace the whole fleet of haul trucks at Chile's Escondida Mine by BHP, Caterpillar, and Finning to have a favourable influence in the future.

BHP, Caterpillar, and Finning supported Antofagasta’s economic and social development by creating local capabilities relevant to the development of mining equipment technologies.

A deal between Tribrid – BHP, Caterpillar, & Finning

The strategic equipment renewal process created by Escondida includes this agreement. With technology that significantly boosts material-moving capacity, efficiency, reliability, and safety, the new Caterpillar 798 AC electric drive trucks will positively influence future-focused initiatives like decarbonization, diversity and inclusion, autonomous technologies, and the growth of local capabilities.

As the three firms seek to replace one of the largest fleets in the industry globally, which is now made up of over 160 haul trucks, the first vehicles are anticipated to arrive at the mine in the second half of 2023, with the delivery of the remaining trucks extending over the next 10 years. The agreement’s maintenance and support services boost BHP’s local employment and gender balance initiatives. The fleet will receive the best possible technical support from the industry through Finning’s Antofagasta-based Integrated Knowledge Center.
