Sustainable production
The BMW Group makes notable investments for sustainable production in Plant Dingolfing that include:
- Re-using several hundred existing production robots in the body shop,
- Sourcing 100% green energy, reducing the consumption of resources in the paintshop,
- Use of electric trucks for onsite transportation,
- Energy-efficient systems,
- Packaging planning, traffic logistics, etc.
About €50 million investments made in new cathodic dip lines and a dry separation system to save water and energy further.
Automated quality control
Automated quality control by cameras with AI is activated at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. AIQX (Artificial Intelligence Quality Next) project is used in quality control, which uses sensors and AI to automate quality processes, determine variants, verify the completeness and detect any anomalies that may have occurred during fitting.

BMW i7 is the first-ever luxury sedan in the world that allows the customer to choose between the 3 kinds of drive they wish to take. They can choose between combustion-powered, fully electric and plug-in hybrid. The BMW Group is all set to manufacture this diverse range of drives with their excellent integration skills and versatile production schedules.
The BMW i7 will be available to the customers once the production is complete and the sales organizations are provided with the demonstration vehicles they require. The latest BMW 7 Series will be available for customers worldwide this year by autumn.
It is expected that, by the end of 2022, one in four BMWs leaving Dingolfing may have an electric drive. This will give rise to about 50% of the plant’s total output.
The BMW 7 Series
Many technology modules of the BMW iX are used for the production of the BMW i7. The new BMW i7 model incorporates certain individual features such as the onboard network architecture, user interface, driver assistance system, etc. The production and the assembly processes as well have been similar to the BMW iX.
The new BMW 7 Series was manufactured with the same structures of the BMW iX. As a result of re-using the systems, the BMW Group has been able to save millions of Euros and resources.
