A Venture For Futuristic EV Batteries
In an attempt to augment the significant increase in prolonged energy density and cost-effectiveness of GM’s Ultrium battery cells, General Motors Corp. and OneD Battery Sciences announced a joint research development agreement.Â

Strengthening the goodwill between both companies, GM Ventures and Volta Energy Technologies participated in OneD’s Series C funding round that closed at $25 million.Â
OneD Battery Sciences
OneD Battery Sciences is known for its SINANODE platform, which is the central element of the collaboration. The SINANODE fuses silicon nanowires into EV-grade graphite to add extra silicon to the anode battery cells. This creation leads to better EV batteries, as silicon stores 10x more energy than graphite.Â
Kent Helfrich, President of GM Ventures, VP of GM R&D, and GM Chief Technology Officer, pointed out that the Ultium platform flexibly improves battery technology. The CEO of OneD, Vincent Pluvinage, stated that the company is thrilled to collaborate with GM to accelerate the mass production of EV batteries.

General Motors Corp. and OneD Battery Sciences are the first 2 American companies to collaborate on silicon anode technology. GM is optimizing its Ultium EV platform for mass production and launched production in its first Ultium Cells joint venture battery plant in Ohio and other states.Â
While GM is revolutionizing battery development and production, OneD leverages its 15 years of R&D to build a portfolio of 240 granted patents. OneD will utilize SINANODE through a licensing business, integrating EV battery production by OEMs and manufacturers.
