Caterpillar Adds Four Battery Electric Machines To Construction Portfolio

Caterpillar Inc. to display four battery electric machines under construction industries portfolio at Bauma 2022 in Munich, Germany.

The four battery electric machines by Caterpillar Inc. will support customers in their energy transition to a lower-carbon future and will be presented as prototypes at Bauma 2022, Oct 24-30. 

Caterpillar Promotes Sustainability With Novel Battery Electric Machines

As part of eco-centric solutions, Caterpillar announces four battery electric machine prototypes – a 301.9 mini excavator, 320 medium excavators, 906 compact wheel loaders, and 950 GC medium wheel loaders. Of the four, 301.9 and 906 are presumed to be the first commercially available models.

Construction Industries Group President, Tony Fassino commented on Caterpillar’s stature in meeting the sustainability goals of customers, including job site emission reduction. He adds that offering various solutions such as machines running on renewable fuel to increase fuel efficiency, is significant to support customers and future machine goals. 

The prototype machines are powered by in-house batteries and offer options for onboard AC chargers or offboard DC fast charging. The Caterpillar-designed batteries, made from customized technology and lithium-ion, will power other industrial applications as well. The batteries are built to scale as per industry and customer performance needs, ultimately, maximizing sustainability throughout its lifespan, even recycling, and reuse.
